American Karate Do and Kobudo
1. How much does it cost to attend classes?
Answer:The dojo fees are only $70 per month with discounts for all first responders and their immediate family. We also provide a discount if more than one family member signs up.
2. How many days a week can I come to class?
Answer::5 days a week.
3. How long does it take to become a black belt?
Answer:A minimum of 3 years depending on how many classes the student attends each week and how well they remember what they have been taught.
4. Why do we bow?
Answer:We bow to show respect for our instructor(s) and for those who have come before them.
5. Are there any contracts to sign?
Answer:Starting September 1, 2018 we will be switching to 1 year membership agreements.
6. What does Sensei mean?
Answer:Sensei means "teacher" or also translates to " one who is born before"
7. What is a Dojo?
Answer:A Karate school where 2 or more students of Karate come together to practice. A Garage, Beach, Yard or park. “Anywhere”
8. Do you have a Jr. Black Belt rank?
Answer:No. At American Karate Do we do not believe in a Jr. Black Belt rank. The student is either ready to be a Black Belt or they are not.
9. Myself and or my child has a disability. Will you accept us into your school?
Answer:Absolutely!! We will not turn you or your child away from attending our dojo because of a disability. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn the Martial Arts.
10. How often do you test for a new belt?
Answer: We test every 3 to 4 months. Testings are based on 1) how often the student attends class, 2) is the student retaining and practicing what they are being taught, 3) and attitude. At American Karate Do we will not/do not promote people just to keep them enrolled in class. Every student must EARN their rank.
